Strength is Beauty

Beauty. Defined as "a combination of qualities, such as shape, color, or form, that pleases the aesthetic senses, especially the sight." This is the first definition listed on google... this is why everyone is so confused. This is why everyone is so lost.

When did beauty solely become of the eyes? When did the world forget about how important & powerful our hearts are? This definition that google has given me is beauty of the eyes. What about true beauty? I don't mean the flawless, long-haired, tanned skin beauty on the front of my Cosmopolitan magazine. I'm talking about TRUE beauty; inner beauty.

We judge people based off of their waist size, skin color, the clothes they wear, and we write them off before we even ask them their name. Then this definition of beauty walks up, and we welcome them with open arms, again, before we even ask them their name. This beauty of the eyes - I call that lust.

I wake up & wonder every day, why women are the way that they are, why they act the way that they do, dress the way that they dress, say the things that they say - and then I look in the mirror, & wonder why I do the same. Sometimes I forget to pray altogether, but when I remember, and when I do, I always ask for the same thing. Change. Make me better. Make me live by what's in my heart. I have all of this beauty inside of me, yet I live for the beauty on the outside of me. I hide my pain, my fear, and my tears behind the flawless, long-haired, tanned skin beauty. I justify my actions, my faults, and my flaws. I tell myself it'll be okay, I'll become who I want to be, one day. This is normal, right? So many of us wait for this "one day," but why can't one day be today?

So at 2:11 AM, here I am, finally unleashing my inner beauty. I know when you look in the mirror every day, you see yourself alone, but you're not. There are millions of people looking in their mirrors, at the same exact time, and thinking the exact same thing - one day.. one day I'll change. One day I'll be better.

Whatever your story is, whatever your struggle was that brought you to this day - you're strong. You're reading this, and you're here, and you have strength inside of you that you don't even realize is there. Today, when you look in that mirror, don't just look at that flawless beauty. Look at your presence. Realize the strength that you're carrying inside of you, just by standing there. Because strength is beauty. & this beauty of a perservering heart, this strength - I call that love.

Make today, one day.
